My past few days have just been the weirdest health-wise; I lifted my toddler into a highchair and put out my back on Saturday (oh, the pain), I had a raging case of hives (who knows why) on Sunday (itchy, firey skin pain), and the chana masala that I ate for both dinner on Monday and lunch on Tuesday got the best of my *cough, cough* digestive tract last night (like bubbling lava in my stomach pain). I was delighted this morning when I awoke and had NO PAIN ! What better way to reward myself then with pastries? The Graham Flour Fig Scones from My Sweet Vegan have been calling my name for a few weeks now and I finally bought some figs so that I could make this quick and easy recipe.
These scones are perfection – so sweet, hearty, and satisfying; Graham Flour is my new best flour friend. I did make two slight adjustments, the first being that I reduced the sugar to 1/4 cup from 1/3 cup and the second being that I added in a handful of the cutest little vegan chocolate chips (I can’t resist chocolate chips in scones!). I see that Madcap Cupcake made these scones back in June (they look lovely, by the way). I totally agree with her that doubling the recipe is the way to go. My initial thought was that four scones wasn’t going to be enough, and, after tasting them, I can definitively say that 4 scones is not enough.
As a side note, if anyone has vegan home remedies for either hives or digestive “issues”, please, please leave them in the comments section!

Unfortunately I don’t really know of any vegan remedies out there for hives or digestive problems although I do know that ginger can help calm down your stomach.

Pretty scones! I’ve never made homemade scones but I should try. I think I’d like a recipe that only made 4 scones since I live alone…
As for digestive issues, have you tried taking a probiotic? I sometimes have tummy issues after eating…and I bought a probiotic at Wild Oats a few weeks ago…haven’t had a problem since. I accidentally bought a non-vegan brand (the generic Whole Foods brand has dairy), but they do make vegan probiotics….which I intend to buy after I use up this bottle.

Those scones look super yummy. I love scones!
Sorry, I don’t have any suggestions for you though. I hope you’re feeling better soon!

Feel better! I’ll try to wrack my brain for a remedy – I’m with Paulina on the ginger (ginger tea is great), also anise is great to calm digestion, both raw and in tea form. The hives sound like an allergic reaction – to soothe the itch, I’ve heard of dabbing white vinegar or witch hazel on the itchy site. Aloe Vera would probably be soothing too. The scones look great – aren’t they just delish?!! Nice addition with the chocolate chips too – I’d swap a little sugar for chocolate any day of the week

The scones look great, and I’m so happy to hear you enjoyed them! I like to make small batches so that nothing sits around and goes bad, but this recipe is very easily doubled as well.

I know this post is older, and so you may have already overcome the tummy issues, but in addition to ginger, thyme and rosemary are supposed to be good for digestive issues. If you steep some fresh thyme and/or rosemary in boiled water (like you would for any other tea), let it steep for at least 10 minutes, and then drink up! I know it helps me if I’ve eaten too much of something, or something that doesn’t agree with me. Another thing you can do is lie on your back and hug your knees into your chest (like a reclining fetal position). This aids digestion and helps get things going… also, if you do yoga, hero pose (virasana) aids digestion.
